History

In 1918, at the age of 15, Robert C. Neff, who many referred to as RC, began working at Gebhart Folding Box Company in Dayton, Ohio. What he did not know was that this was the start of a life long career in the folding box business. As RC grew to understand the business at Gebhart, his responsibilities also grew as he worked his way up to General Manager.

In the late 1940’s, RC and several partners purchased the company from the Gebhart family.  He continued to operate Gebhart along with his son RS (Robert S. Neff) and brother (Bud) Minor F. Neff. In 1958, RC and his partners made a decision to exit the folding box business and sell the plant. Not soon after that RC, RS and Bud decided they wanted to get back into the business, and in 1959, along with several dedicated employees, they started a new company called Neff Folding Box.

Neff Folding Box continued to prosper and in 1965, with expansion plans in place, a second operation, Courier Carton, was acquired in Louisville, KY. Then, in the mid 1970’s, the stage was set for the 2nd generation to take control of the company as RS Neff was named President.  RS quickly added a third location in Louisville, KY – C-N Corrugated and Sheeting.

In 1979, Robert D. Neff (RD) joined the company as a sales representative providing the opportunity for a third generation member to take the reins of the business someday.   RD continued to work in the sales field until 1990 when he assumed additional responsibilities and relocated back to the headquarters in Dayton, Ohio.

In 1986, RC Neff became the first recipient of our industry’s highest and most prestigious award, the Robert T. Gair Award, for his dedication to Neff Folding Box, the Paperboard Packaging industry and for his service to the Dayton, Ohio community.

RD Neff became President/CEO of the company in 1996. Several years later he implemented consolidation plans to move the manufacturing operations to Louisville, KY, and renamed the company Neff Packaging Solutions to reflect a strong emphasis on providing solutions to customers.

In May 2007, Neff Packaging Solutions continued its growth plans with the purchase of a new facility that would house all of the manufacturing operations under one roof in Simpsonville, KY.

Today, Neff Packaging Solutions operates one of the most technologically advance folding carton plants in North America, providing paperboard packaging to many market segments in our industry. We have a rich heritage in the pursuit of excellence driven by the dedication, knowledge and tradition of our employees since its establishment in 1959.
